The Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) has raised procedural concerns following disciplinary action taken by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) against its President, Samuel Eto’o.
In a first communiqué dated January 14, 2026, FECAFOOT acknowledged a CAF Disciplinary Jury decision rendered that same day in relation to alleged misconduct during the Morocco–Cameroon match. The ruling imposed a suspension of four matches and a fine of USD 20,000.
FECAFOOT noted that the decision was issued without explicit written justification, raising concerns about compliance with the fundamental requirements of a fair disciplinary process and stated its intention to appeal.
A second communiqué, issued on January 22, 2026, followed feedback from CAF’s disciplinary commission.
According to CAF, the deadline for submitting an appeal memorandum will only begin once the full reasons for the decision are formally notified.
While FECAFOOT welcomed this procedural clarification, it expressed surprise at the contrast between the speed with which the sanction was pronounced, less than two hours after the hearing, and the extended or uncertain delays in communicating the underlying reasoning.
FECAFOOT emphasized that this is not an isolated issue, recalling previous disciplinary matters in which it reportedly took several months to obtain detailed decisions and hearing dates.
The Federation reiterates its attachment to due process, reasonable timelines, and the effective exercise of appeal rights.
While confirming President Eto’o’s intention to pursue available legal remedies within the prescribed framework, FECAFOOT reaffirms its support for Eto’o and calls for greater procedural rigor to safeguard credibility, fairness, and integrity in African football governance.
