Two Years of Thought: A Letter on Writing, Anonymity, and Community

On PoiseSocial's second anniversary, the writer Wandji Wilfred reflects on producing over 109 articles in that span, driven by a conviction that rigorous social commentary should endure and document culture for future reference. He acknowledges the reader community that has shaped the platform, defends his choice of anonymity as essential to clarity, and signals that deeper expansions are coming when the moment is right.

It’s been 2 years, people. Two years since the very first article was posted here on PoiseSocial. In that time I have written exactly 109 full-length articles for PoiseSocial and a good number of shorter ones. I just counted, and I am surprised. I didn’t realise I have been writing basically an article per week for PoiseSocial over the last 2 years.

I joined PoiseSocial barely two months after the first article was written. I had always wanted to write social commentary but never really got around to doing it. And so when I saw what Tino was doing, I decided to jump in. The intersection of music, art, society and marketing had always intrigued me and I thought it would be interesting to put out my thoughts on the issue. I sent a few articles to Tino, he published them, and the rest, as they say, is history.

My drive had been to write thought-provoking, pertinent and evergreen content that people could always come back to refer to. Over time it has had an added dimension of me trying to document our culture and being able to produce material that people in 20 years would want to consult and reference.

All this to say, I have been very fortunate to be able to be here and to be able to write my thoughts on the issues which I think are pertinent to me and to our community of readers. Along the journey so far, I have come to know many of our readers’ whose opinions I always find enriching. I would name a few people Like Visas Mabel, Larissa BW, Skiezy, Leila Kigha, Karen Ada, Elobo Christelle, Gilles Zelot, Melanie Boh, Mockors von Genius, Nsuh Yosembom….. Reason why I put some of you, our followers, on the cover photo for this letter.

Thank you guys for the likes, and the shares, and the comments, and encouragements.

I am sure I may have bruised some people with my words and picked up a few enemies along the way; especially with some of my dear people from the Mboko Gang with whom I have had a few differences of opinion. It’s all love, guys.I’m not out to hurt anyone with my thoughts and I am always open to being corrected. I hope one day my opinions would serve as a prop to the movement you guys are trying to build.

Together with Tino, we had planned and promised some major additions to what we do here. We have had to scale back on our plans a little because we have thought things out and we don’t think it is time yet. I think we are at like 15% of where we want to take PoiseSocial. We ask you to just be patient because when the time is ripe, you all will love where we will be taking PoiseSocial to.

And as for those wondering who I am, let’s just say I cherish my anonymity. It gives me a certain clarity which I would not have had otherwise. I have seen people come up with the wildest theories about me and Tino being the same person. I am sure Tino appreciates the compliment.

Maybe one day I will reveal myself, who knows…. But that won’t be anytime soon. We still have a long way to go and time will reveal things when it is time for things to be revealed.

I love you guys. Happy anniversary to us all

- Wandji Wilfred
