Every now and then, we get solicitations in our inbox from musicians and references from some of our readers and followers to tell us about themselves or so-and-so talent.
It is not often that I listen to their music and feel inspired to pen down something about them. Well... today is one of those days.
Sharone Konfor (Share'on by her artiste name) is a musician that cannot leave you indifferent. I was immediately blown away from the very first note of the very song I listened to.
It's not often that you get to listen to an accomplished vocalist (at least in our generation's urban scene) that sounds just as good on a record as she sounds live. Just to give you an impression of how good a vocalist she is.
Share'On is of that category of musicians that you would hardly see on mainstream television here at home, but that will be having top billing in Afro Jazz concerts in European cities. She's well on her way to walking in the shoes of the likes of Coco Mbassi, Sally Nyolo, Kareyce Fotso or Sanzy Viany
Yes, she is that good!
She's the kind of musician you put on at a dinner to impress your friends that have a palate only for boomboomcha music (lmao). Because at some point, you see them transported and they inevitably ask "who is that singing?" To which you respond "of course, you had to ask. If you were not listening to that nonsense music you listen to every day you would know who it is. In fact, boh lev'am. Nobi ya level for music this. Just di chop ya chop."
Her song "Ah Weh" is an ABSOLUTE delight! I put on my earphones, closed my ears, relaxed and felt myself transported to the grass fields of the Western Highlands. I could smell the dust and feel the red earth of the Mbum land as the soft, enchanting melody and the Limbum words echoed on the inner walls of ears. "Ah Weh" is the type of music that calms down a troubled soul.
I feel like I would be sinning if I didn't share some of her songs with you this morning. And I would be taking note of those of you who like this article and do not share it.
This is the one time when I say, and emphatically so, that we need to support our own. This is good music that ought to be known.
