The Police administration is subdivided into four ranks. And each rank is in turn divided into three ranks. Each rank has a corresponding badge that is visible on the police officer's epaulette.
From bottom to top we have ● Gardien de La Paix (1st Class ) ● Inspecteur de Police (2nd Class) ● Officier de Police (3rd Class) ● Commissaire de Police (Supreme Class/4th Class)
Gardien de la Paix (From bottom to top )
● Gardien de la Paix (Premier Grade); Has 3 white V stripes on the shoulder- ● Gardien de la Paix (Deuxième Grade); Has 3 V stripes as well but with a red Stripe in the middle. ● Gardien de la Paix Principale; Has 3 golden V stripes on the shoulder.
Inspecteur de Police (From bottom to top)-
● Inspecteur Première Grade( One silver star on the shoulder)- ●Inspecteur Deuxième Grade ( Two silver stars on the shoulder)- ●Inspecteur Principale ( Three Silver stars on the shoulder )
Officier de Police (From bottom to top)-
●Officier Première Grade( A Golden star on the shoulder)- ●Officier Deuxième Grade ( 2 Golden stars)- ●Officier Principal (3 Golden stars )
Commissaire de Police (From Bottom to top)-
●Commissaire de Police ( 4 Golden stars)- ●Commissaire de Police Principale (5 Golden Stars)- Commissaire ●Divisionnaire (6 Golden Stars )
Entry into this body is on a competitive basis. This, according to the rank one wishes to have. So there's a competition for gardien de la paix, another for inspectors and another for police officers. The particularity of these competitive examinations lies in the level of the diploma required of the candidates.
