10 Reasons why Jovi might Actually be making more money than Stanley Enow!
One of Jovi’s twitter tirades led to him announcing he makes more money than his arch rival Stanley Enow. Meanwhile Jovi sounded assertive in his statements, popular opinion is that Jovi couldn’t be making as much money as Stanley.
Since walking off the Stage with an MTV Award for Best New Act in 2014, Stanley has been on top of the hip hop game in Cameroon, at least when we talk of visibility and relevance. He has numerous international collaborations and has toured Africa, Europe, and America. Even with a less than stellar music catalogue, there is no doubt that Stanley’s moves cost money. Even if the documentation of his moves make it look bigger than what is, Jovi’s moves do not come close. Stanley has had major brand sponsorships for the likes of Samsung and Guinness. Recently, we see him living on BICEC billboards.
On the other hand, Jovi’s highest altitude till date has been production credits on a Akon song even though I doubt he feels that is his greatest accolade. Basically, to what meets the eye, Stanley is living the life and many upcoming acts in Cameroon would chose to be Stanley over Jovi any day. Question is, is there a slight possibility that Jovi actually has more money in the bank compared to Stanley?
1. Record Sales
Jovi has three widely distributed albums available for online purchase and streaming. With every album release, we see a good number of people posting screenshots to advertise their purchase and highlight their efforts to support the culture. It is safe to say, since 2013, Jovi’s albums have been the only ones from Cameroonian hip hop that do not come but buyer's remorse. Personally, I purchased H.I.V and Mboko God and his latest EP YAJE VOL. 1. If we were to tally Jovi’s album sales and compare them to Stanley’s, I am certain Stanley will be left in the dust.
2. Production Work
If we all agree that Jovi has one of the hottest beats out here in Africa, and we recognize his reach, then I can assure you there are many people across the world hitting Jovi up on a daily basis for the hook up. Now this is a tricky one because we all know Jovi makes it a duty for us to know when he is being sought out by foreigners for his work. That we haven’t heard much on this except for when he produced for Akon leaves us unsure of how much he is really bagging from selling beats but this could be his little secret. Maybe he doesn't talk about it because he is mainly selling to unknown artists. Whatever the case, you know what they say about people that seem to talk too much - listen for what they are not saying.
3. Engineering
Do I need to remind you Jovi has one of the dopest recordings and mixes around here? - Don’t you think he is selling those services low key to people who are not his direct competitors?
4. Endorsements
We have it from a reputable source that Stanley received 0, FCFA for his highly publicized Made of Black deal. He basically took the deal in exchange for exposure. It is said that Jovi was actually contacted for the same deal and he declined. So for those looking at the Guinness deal as a huge pay day for Stanley, sorry.
5. February 16th
Feb is Jovi’s visual artists and does everything New Bell when it comes to photography and video so Jovi does not break the bank on that. Stanley we all know goes in for the high budget, high standard, jet setting videos using big name directors who obviously come at a cost.
6. Lifestyle
Stanley obviously spends a lot on his image given that most of his value stems from that. Jovi on the other hand never leaves his studio and gets most of his wardrobe from Frenchkind. Jovi’s image does not require him to maintain a certain wardrobe standard so he’s definitely keeping more of the money Stanley is putting into his outfits. In general, Jovi lives a conservative lifestyle which also happens to cost a lot less.
7. Motherland Gear
We all see Stanley donning his custom Motherland gear which also happens not to be in mass production meaning he is paying a lot to produce small orders of factory finished goods.
8. Reniss
Since dropping ‘la sauce’ Reniss has been on a serious international booking run. If Jovi is consistent with his philosophy of showing up only when the price is right, then I am sure Reniss is not going out for change.
9. Martin Enow
When Stanley first started his international parade, he was always seen moving with his brother and manager Martin. Lately, we don’t see Martino flying out as often. Stanley now mostly goes alone and is helped around by his handlers or contacts in other countries. As far as we know, Martin Enow’s only job is running Motherland and Motherland has no real operations that have suddenly kept him too busy to travel - Is the budget tight or what?
10. Jovi
Again we have to remember who we are dealing with. Jovi has proven to us time and again that he is a master player in this game but we seem to forget our lessons too often. I personally believe Jovi will not make such a statement if he did not just come home with a good bag of money. In the past, Jovi has always used his musical talent to defend himself but his recent language sounds like his bank account touched some long awaited threshold. Knowing Jovi, I know he’ll one day pull out all the stacks for us to count. Stanley, I doubt will ever let us in the vault.
On the surface, it looks like Stanley is making more money but in reality, Stanley might just be rolling on the checking account while Jovi is banking on his savings account. Stanley’s cost of operations and overhead are extremely high in comparison to Jovi’s so just because we see Stanley moving a lot doesn't make him richer.
