NOT TO UNDERESTIMATE THE POWER OF MUSIC - A chat with Bonzyz. -----------------------------------------------------------
It was on Sunday the 24th of November (2019) that I reached out to Bonzyz through a text message to find out if we could have a brief meet-up. He was favourable to that so we agreed to make it on Tuesday of that same week.
The reason I reached out to him was that -- I have particularly been on this sacred quest to seek out and have a healthy exchange with individuals that I think have a smooth potential in using their art and knowledge to drive the Cameroonian society towards a prosperous and abundant landscape.
Cameroon has been under a dark spell for a very long time and there are so many things not going right. There is a lot of hopelessness and frustration floating around which for that matter is smoking the vision of its citizens and youth. We’ve come this far into the black hole but I’m still very optimistic that we can get out as quickly and naturally as possible into the light. However, I deeply think it will take a certain level of deliberately putting out positive intentions and making ourselves available in the process of creating a better life and a better society.
Tuesday came and so I went over to have a little exchange of words and perspective with Bonzyz.
I have listened to a number of his songs and I felt through his music that one of his main intentions was not just to entertain but also to breathe some air of consciousness onto the listener’s eardrums. Yes, the music is good, but there is a message behind and that’s what I strongly campaign for.
The society we are living in today has to be developed physically, mentally and spiritually. That’s why conscious music is one of the powerful ways we can use to build the minds of our society. Music is universal simply because you just have to feel it and feeling is human nature. That’s why a certain piece of music can make you feel hope, or love, or courage or calm. Music is some sort of a drug that takes your mind on a mental journey and that’s why it is very recommended to listen to music that makes you feel positive -- music that can give you hope and make you feel a sense of purpose.
My chat with him was almost never-ending since we had so much to discuss on -- different topics such as music (of course) and the MUYAMA project. We also talked about social media plus its impact in our lives and we also shared some of our opinions on the current state of the storytelling that is involved in Cameroon’s movie industry.
No matter what topic we discussed on, the main focus was: - how can we use the different mediums that we have at our disposal as a tool to offer something valuable and enriching to Cameroonians. How can each of us use our knowledge and perspective to raise the standard of living for the everyday Cameroonian who is striving each and every day to make life worth living?
The MUYAMA concept as he made me understand is not just a brand as it may seem at first sight but rather a growing movement that is geared towards encouraging a spirit of solidarity and healthy consciousness amongst the Cameroonian people. And so the music(that is a part of him) simply serves as a vehicle for him to send the message across.
I too strongly believe that (now more than ever) we need to seize any opportunity we have to build a healthy collective consciousness and from there we can subsequently benefit from a state of general prosperity. That is why the power of music, which appears to be an invisible element, should not (at all) be taken for granted. There are many other elements that have to be taken into consideration towards building a prosperous nation but that will be for a later discussion.
It was around a few minutes past 9pm that we finally parted ways but as I left, I was filled with gratitude and unconsciously felt the need to keep up with my quest to search for more individuals, who apart from their personal ambitions are also willing to contribute for a growing and prosperous society. Bonzyz is doing his part and I hope you can also be inspired by his work and the work of others.
